As many of you know, we are much involved in the discussions concerning the new building for our department and the position of Thor in these plans. Building space and means are limited, posing a tough challenge for the architects and all involved to come up with a design that suits everybody’s needs and wishes. In particular, fitting the Walhalla in these plans has proven to be an issue. Limited budget and other design challenges have led to the point that it is even uncertain whether a faculty pub will be included in the blueprints. We, the board of Thor, believe that the Walhalla is a unique element of our department, contributing much to atmosphere between and among students and employees. This distinguishes our faculty from others. From experience know that for many students the Walhalla has been their first and determining acquaintance with the open and welcoming atmosphere that has been nested deeply in the TU/e’s culture throughout its history. We are looking for ways to send out a positive message to show the university that having a department pub is truly part of the department’s identity. All forms of input or ideas are welcome.
