Vacation, family and friends

Monday, June 10, 2019

Since the year is almost coming to an end, its almost time for the summer vacation! While I am looking forward to having a good break and catching up to friends, it’s the first time since my 17th birthday that I did not plan any vacation with my friends. No trips outside of Europa no sunny beaches, no relaxing on the beach. I only partly planned a vacation with my parents to visit my relatives in Poland.

Programming 1.0

I have loved programming since I was a little Niek. When I was 12, I started with the most important thing of programming: googling about it. I made some very small programs before getting computer science at school. Because I loved it so much, I upgraded my ‘website building’ assignment into an assignment to build a whole web shop with iDEAL, which could generate invoices and e-mail them automatically. Unfortunately, ‘Webwinkel Ron Jans’ has been taken offline by my school and cannot be found on google anymore.

I have always liked and disliked learning new things and skills at the same time. As a kid I was always trying new things, which can also be seen by the number of different sports and activities I tried. I have always been eager to learn new things, stories and skills.

How I became a drummer

The beginning: Keyboard

When I was 9 years old, I was totally indifferent about music. The only music I listened to was Crazy frog. I didn’t really like it, so I listened to music like once a month. Then one day my parents took me to an open day of our local music teaching association. There I got to play keyboard and I thought it was fun, so I started playing keyboard along with my little brother. Fairly soon I was able to play keyboard with very little effort. Which meant I stopped playing keyboard, because it was too easy.

Inline skating: part two

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

Area51 is yet another reason I'm glad I chose Eindhoven to study: it's one of the biggest skate parks of the Netherlands. As my Board year progresses, I've realised more and more what value it has to me. When I'm skating there, time doesn't exist until the park closes. These are some of the rare moments I don't think of all the things I still need to do.
