Dublin Day

Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit Dublin this year. However, we will try to get a taste of Dublin right here in Eindhoven during SHAMROCK’s Dublin Day! During this day, we will get a virtual tour of three Dublin-based companies under the enjoyment of some free lunch. These companies include:

Huawei: This Chinese company is a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Huawei is a large contributor to the consumer devices market. To gain a distinct competitive edge in the future of this market, Huawei has set up the 2012 Laboratories, which functions as the innovation, research, and platform technology development arm of the company. Huawei focuses on making continuous investments in key technologies, architectures, and standards in the ICT field and is dedicated to providing broader, smarter, and more energy-efficient pipes that require zero wait time, thereby creating a better experience for users. It works closely with partners from industry, academia, and research institutes. Its goal is to take the lead in research, innovation, and implementation of future networks.

SiriusXT: Sirius XT, a Dublin based start-up, has been able to develop a soft X-Ray microscope: The SXT100. This is the only commercial, lab-based solution for imaging subcellular structure. This soft X-ray technology perfectly fits the gap between the imaging capabilities of light and electron microscopy where cell biologists are seeking to image the whole internal structure of intact biological cells at the nanoscale. This imaging modality is very complementary to both light and electron microscopy, which can be correlated with soft x-ray microscopy to extend and enhance the benefits of these mature imaging modalities.

Pilot photonics: Pilot Photonics develops comb source laser technology for the communications, space, and industrial markets. The spin-off company from Dublin City University has spent years on developing intellectual property around optical comb sources and a capability in photonic integration. Nowadays, the company has launched its first commercial products and is now developing its integrated comb source technology for the European Space Agency among many other customers.

The program starts at 12.30 with free lunch after which the companies will talk about their most promising technologies.
13:00-14:00: Huawei on 5G smart industries
14:00-15:00: Pilot Photonics will show their labs during this presentation
15:00-16:00: SiriusXT will give a presentation about the process of soft x-ray imaging of cryo-prepared biological cells for which they will give a video walk-through of the various steps in the process

In case you are not able to join all of the presentations, it is okay to enter/exit between the presentations. Keep in mind: Lunch is only at 12:30!

We will conclude the day with a typical Irish drink in Het Walhalla (register for this activity at a separate form) Hope to see you there!
